w221.
I think the w221 S class is the best looking Benz design since the 70s. prove me wrong. or dont

I like the W221, but still love looking at the W204. So much that, I actually penned something here on Oppo about just that.

Cannot disagree.

I quite liked that generation of Mercedes design, surely an improvement over the previous 4 eyed from the early ‘00s or the boxy looks from the ‘90s

I think the W220 and W222 are both better looking, personally.
There’s just something about the front of the 221 that bores me to death.
And the W211 E63 might be the best looking Mercedes in the last 30 years:

I admit they don’t look bad at all, b ut... this is less than 30 years old:
It also has a better shot at still running in another 30 years.

Never sold new on this continent. V12 AMG, seriously rare.

This is a fair point.
![]() 01/11/2019 at 14:45 |

To be fair, that design debuted for the 1982 model year, 37 years old ;)
126 design might age better than any MB in history.

the rear is my favorite part.Especially with the body color stripes on the taillights.

Loved these in black. They look like mobster cars. COO for my work has one
Also like the W212 before the face lift

There is a Lawyer in my town who drives a “carbon fiber warpped” Hummer H1 and his wife has a black S class AMG. its looks so out of place in out quaint little town, which is a good thing.
![]() 01/11/2019 at 14:53 |

gets a lot of point s for the shape of the side windows, adn being a pillar-less coupe. But I still like the S class more.

Im just messing but if you argue Merc SUV t he GLK is the best looking

nuuuuuuh .... the 560 SEC is the best looking Benz of the past 30 years ... Maybe the best looking ever ! Fi ght me ...

I like the design language of this era but think this particular model, while not exactly ugly, is the least attractive of an otherwise nice bunch.

No those tail lights are worse than I remember, though the rest isn’t as terrible as I recalled. ..

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, here. Hammer above all.
also, the 70s is now 40 years ago, sorry to make you feel old
![]() 01/11/2019 at 15:10 |
|
It was also 10 years ahead of its time, of course. F or my money the 126 is the best looking of the modern Benzes (there’s no beating a 300SL or W112 coupe overall for me ) , especially these coupes .

Oh shut up and just imagine the days when you can scoop one up cheap for rallycross. Those cars are fucking amazing, people just dont use them properly

Yeah that would kind of random but seems she has a bit better taste . Other than 4 doors, those 2 are on different ends of the spectrum

Eww
![]() 01/11/2019 at 15:45 |

Only because they were ugly then and they're still ugly now
![]() 01/11/2019 at 15:47 |
|
Definitely. There’s a reason production continued into 1994 for some models - it was just that ahead of its time. It just has presence, not looking ancient while not looking trendy.

B-class. Duh.

You’ll find an insanely small group of people with the same opinion ;)
![]() 01/11/2019 at 15:58 |

Dude what
This is peak Benz style, man! I don’t know how anyone can dislike these things, I think they set the bar for all subsequent MBZ styling.
![]() 01/12/2019 at 12:13 |

Gross no. Better than 107's though. I'll take 114/115 over any 126. Or even a 116. Don't get me wrong, the 126 AMG couples are badass, but 126's overall don't work for me.
![]() 01/12/2019 at 12:14 |
|
Just because it's the less popular opinion doesn't mean it's wrong. Most people used to think the world was flat after all!
![]() 01/12/2019 at 13:27 |
|
I think the 126 = ugly group might be closer to flat earthers than realists ;)
Then again, there might be rose tinted glasses by those of us who grew up during the era. These cars were among the ne plus ultra of the era, not exotic, but still with a huge halo, and head and shoulders above the competition.
![]() 01/12/2019 at 14:44 |

I’m pretty sure that’s it it is. There are some hateful 90's cars that I love. Growing up with something makes a big difference. But to be fair, though I dislike most 70's and 80's designs, I think Mercedes from that era are better looking than most.
![]() 01/12/2019 at 19:45 |
|
I used to love 140s when they were new , then hated them for their blunt styling and bad image, now love them again. Not sure if I would call them hateful. I also have a tolerance for many 80s cars people would call crap now , especially ones that were in the family back in the day.
Relative to new cars in 1982 (or most any date in the decade) , I can’t think of what would be better than a C/W 126. I think those cars look better than most new cars, too. MB had a golden age during that decade.
![]() 01/13/2019 at 11:21 |
|
I would definitely call 140's hateful 80's designs I like... Buick gnx, Corvette (which I used to hate)... Umm... ?
Oh yeah, buying something at that time, 126 would’ve been on the list for sure. Nothing else compares.
![]() 01/13/2019 at 13:34 |

We can agree on W140s, I hate everything about those pigs haha
![]() 01/13/2019 at 17:13 |

I suppose the wiring harness era cars can be a handful, but I find something refreshing about the flat harsh styling among the overstyled faux dynamic designs of so many modern cars. It isn’t elegant, but it also isn’t pretentious. I like 140s more than 220s for sure.
I think probably the best car available on the US market for MY 1981 (at any price) was a W126 300SD, with 5cyl diesel 123s close behind. Several years later, the gasoline cars also became really good .
![]() 01/13/2019 at 19:13 |

I like the flat harsh styling, as shown in 124's and 202's, but it doesn’t translate to 140's for me.
Completely agree.

140s once had kind of a Russian mafia/second rate drug dealer vibe, that turned me off of them for a long time. Now, that association has moved to 221s.
